Every major survey ever done shows that the large majority of smokers want to quit their habit. The tobacco industry knows this and does everything it can to prevent this from happening, to the tune of about $3.99 billion – billion – a year.

 

The money is directed toward promoting deadly products, hiding the truth about those products, reinforcing the behavior of nicotine addicts and finding new addicts. There’s no way a community coalition can match the tobacco companies’ billion-dollar marketing It’s much more efficient to use the media – preferably “earned” or “free” media – to change the environment in which tobacco is sold.
