ELIMINATING DISPARITIES
Eliminating tobacco-caused health disparities s one of the Centers
for Disease Control’s four main goals for tobacco education
and prevention (the other three are preventing initiation, promoting
cessation and eliminating exposure to second-hand smoke). This
goal offers a great opportunity for tobacco control coalitions
nationwide as they try to understand patterns of tobacco use and
consequences within various cultural, ethnic and priority populations.
This module will help you by discussing the definitions and principles
behind eliminating disparities. You will learn how to acknowledge,
identify and assess the needs of diverse population groups. Finally,
we’ll discuss culturally competent coalitions and intervention
strategies to best address population group needs.
